More fun with baby bedding

Mothercare Nursery furnitureBaby nursery: cots and cot beds
The safest cot buys for your new baby should include a firm kind of mattress. Newborn babies cannot lift up their heads, so if squashed into a soft mattress won't be able to move into a clear comfortable position. Also, it is much easier for babies to roll over onto their stomachs in soft baby bedding. For this reason water beds and any other soft, pliable mattresses or bedding is not recommended for young babies.

When planning your baby furniture, think about whether you want to buy a cot or a cot bed. Cot beds can look enormous with a tiny baby but will last longer than a cot as you can put off buying a full-size bed until your child is three or four. Cots take up less space at a time when your baby nursery will be packed with changing table, feeding chair and more.

At The Baby Show, you’ll be able to go over the cot/cotbed options with lots of exhibitors, including:

  • Kiddisave
  • Babycity and more.

Cribs
Cribs are suitable for babies up to the age of six months but not beyond. Once your baby can sit or pull himself up, the crib should not be used. Cribs often come separately from baby bedding, flat-packed; some baby cribs include a mattress. Make sure you are able to assemble the crib correctly. You can turn your crib into highly attractive item of nursery furniture, with matching drapes and hoods, but always make sure the baby is safe and happy, and nothing hangs directly into her sleeping area.

Moses baskets
Moses baskets can be an attractive and practical type of baby furniture for your new baby, and can make the transition into a proper bed or cot easier, since the moses basket can be placed directly into the new bed for gradual acclimatisation. When buying a moses basket, make sure the handles are attached firmly and that the basket itself has undergone treatment for fire resistance. Moses baskets are designed to hold your baby during the first few months of life and are very portable; so baby can sleep anywhere, but still stay within the familiarity of his own cosy basket.
A wide range of exhibitors at The Baby Show will be able to talk to you about moses baskets and beautiful matching baby bedding so book now!
