The idea for BirchBaby began while founder Hannah Hill was pregnant and researching all the practical products she would need for parenthood. As a TV set designer, Hannah was used to thinking about how objects sit within a space, but she was struck by how many baby products felt clinical, temporary and disconnected from the homes they were placed in. Baby gates stood out in particular. Often positioned across staircases, hallways and living spaces, they can become one of the most visible additions to a home – yet the category seemed to have received little attention aesthetically. That problem inspired BirchBaby and its debut product, The Scalloped Gate: a new take on the traditional wooden safety gate, combining independently tested child safety with a distinctive scalloped silhouette, solid PEFC-certified wood and three considered finishes – Natural, Cashmere and Walnut.
