Clare O'Brien
Clare O’Brien, AKA The Motherhood Midwife, is a practising midwife with 13 years’ experience. She spent 10 years working within the NHS across multiple areas of maternity care, including labour ward, before becoming her Trust’s Lead for Reproductive Health and Childbirth Research, where she was responsible for setting up and running clinical trials.
Clare has a specialist interest in maternal mental health and newborn development, with particular expertise in areas including colic, reflux, allergies and infant sleep. She has undertaken extensive additional training in these areas, including Newborn Behavioural Observation (NBO) training.
Alongside her clinical work, Clare sits on the Editorial Advisory Board for The Practising Midwife and the Medical Advisory Board for Emma’s Diary.
Clare is also a mum to three boys, giving her a valuable perspective that combines clinical expertise and evidence-based practice with a genuine understanding of the realities of parenting beyond the textbooks.
