Laura Spence
Laura Spence is a UK-trained midwife, perinatal mental health specialist and the founder of NeuroNatal Academy CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to improving maternity care for neurodivergent people. Known online as “The ADHD Midwife”, Laura combines more than 15 years of professional experience with her own lived experience of late-diagnosed ADHD.
She holds a Master’s degree in Perinatal Mental Health, awarded with Merit, and her research explored executive functioning in mothers with ADHD during the postnatal period. Her work focuses on making pregnancy, birth and early parenthood more accessible for autistic and ADHD people, particularly through sensory-informed care, communication adjustments and greater professional understanding.
Laura provides training, consultancy and education to maternity teams, charities, universities and national organisations. She has delivered neurodiversity-informed training for NHS maternity services and organisations including the NSPCC, and has spoken at national and international conferences, including the International Confederation of Midwives Congress. She also supports a growing community of neurodivergent maternity professionals through the NeuroMidwives Forum and NeuroNatal Alliance.
Laura is the author of a forthcoming book with Jessica Kingsley Publishers on ADHD across pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. She is also a regular podcast guest, speaker and contributor to professional discussions on inclusive maternity care.
Her work is grounded in both evidence and lived experience, helping parents feel understood while giving professionals practical tools to provide safer, kinder and more accessible care.
