Tickle your taste buds with this fantastic Winter warmer for the whole family to enjoy! Natalie Peall from Baby Led Weaning Cookbook has shared a Family fish pie recipe, that can be served for 4-6 adults OR as 8 baby to toddler portions.

Ingredients:

  • 1kg potatoes, peeled and chopped in half
  • 50g butter + 2 tablespoons for mashing
  • 50g plain flour
  • 500ml full-fat milk + a splash for mashing
  • 80g cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard (optional)
  • Half a bunch of chives, chopped
  • Juice of ½ a lemon
  • 500g fish, diced - a mix of salmon, smoked haddock, cod, prawns, whatever you have on hand
  • 160g frozen peas

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C
  • Put a large pan of water on to boil for the potatoes
  • Once the water is boiling, add the potatoes and boil for 10-15 minutes until very tender
  • Meanwhile, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat
  • Whisk in the flour, then gradually whisk in the milk until smooth after each addition
  • Bring the mixture to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes until thickened
  • Once thickened, stir in the cheese, mustard, chives and lemon juice
  • Remove from the heat and stir through the fish
  • Once the potatoes are cooked, drain and return to the pan and mash with 2 tablespoons of butter and a splash of milk
  • Pour the fish mixture into a large casserole dish and carefully spread the mash over the top. Alternatively, divide the mix into smaller ramekins for individual portions
  • Place in the oven and cook for 40 minutes for a large casserole or 20-30 for individual portions. Alternatively, cover and freeze at this point
